Regular check-up is important, not just because we can keep track of your existing oral condition, but also detect signs of oral disease(s) at an early stage and provide adequate treatment if necessary.
[vc_toggle title=”What is tooth decay?” style=”simple” open=”true”]Tooth decay, or dental caries is a common oral disease, which causes cavities and discoloration of both permanent and baby teeth. As decay progresses, the tooth can breakdown and cause symptoms such as sensitivity and hot or cold things, pain on biting and possibly swelling as it damages the nerve tissues.
[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How can we manage dental decay?” style=”simple”]Tooth decay is best managed by prevention. At its early stage, it can be managed by adequate brushing, flossing and the use of remineralising agents with fluoride. Other factors such as diet, saliva composition and family history also play roles. Depending on the size of the decayed area, the tooth can either be reviewed every 6 months, or restorative work may be required to stop its progression. At a later stage, if the nerves have been irreversibly damaged, a root canal treatment may be required to save the tooth from being removed.
[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How often should I get a check-up and professional clean?” style=”simple”]It depends on your age, current oral health and oral hygiene habits. If your teeth and gums are healthy, and your cleaning habits are adequate, once a year may be suitable as recommended by your dental practitioner. Otherwise, once every 6 months is a safe option. Early detection of dental problems can reduce the cost and complexity of the dental procedures. For children, as soon as the first tooth erupts (approximately 12 months after birth), a dental visit should be arranged to consult about possible dental needs in the future.
[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How often do I need X-rays?” style=”simple”]Again it depends on your current dental health. If your dental risk profile is low, then a set of x-rays every 2 years will be suitable. However, if you are determined as having high risk of developing oral diseases later, then as frequently as every 6 months may be necessary to review your dentition.
