Dental Implants

Dental implant is a third tooth in your life after losing your baby and permanent teeth.

Dental implant is one of the most important inventions in the world of dentistry. Dental Implants replicate what nature intended as it is composed of a titanium screw (the root) and a porcelain retainer (the crown).

Advantages of a dental implants include its supreme longevity, comfort and aesthetic. Once placed successfully, implant has a very high chance of lasting for the rest of your life, given that appropriate maintenance has been carried out regularly.

Disadvantages of a dental implant include its cost and the complexity of the procedure. Not all patients are suitable for a dental implant, especially for patients with a history of severe periodontal disease or extensive bony defect.

What is a dental implant?

Implant replicates a tooth root but is made of titanium. The metallic anchor acts as a root substitute. Dental Implant is surgically placed into the jawbone; the bone then integrates with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth (the process is called osseo-integration). Small post called as abutment is then attached to the implant which in turn supports the implant crown. Dental implant can be used to replace a single lost tooth or many missing teeth. Implant also helps to preserve facial structure, prevent further bone loss, which occurs when the tooth has been removed for an extended period of time.

While high-tech in nature and more expensive, dental implant is actually more conservative than traditional dental bridge, since implant doesn’t not rely on neighbouring teeth for support. It is a stand alone structure which relies solely on the bone for support.
