Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers can transform your smile!

Porcelain veneers, also known as laminates (approximately 1mm wide), are used to cosmetically enhance and often transform the appearance of a smile. A veneer is made of a very thin customized porcelain that is artistically crafted to a desirable colour and shape, with minimal tooth preparation. They are strongly bonded to the surface of the natural teeth to reshape broken and misshapen teeth, as well as provide a solution for discoloured teeth that do not respond to traditional whitening treatment. Patients with veneers can achieve a natural tooth appearance that is well-tolerated by the gums and resistant to future stains.

Reasons for porcelain veneers

  • Severely discoloured or stained teeth
  • Chips or hairline fractures
  • Root canal performed on a front tooth
  • Small gaps in-between front teeth
  • Misshapen or short front teeth

The Three Steps Process

Extended examination

To ensure that a veneer can be placed without difficulty or with the least risk of failure

Moulding appointment

Depending on the case, the tooth is either cleaned or very slightly prepared. A custom mould is then taken and sent to a cosmetic laboratory. Temporary resin veneer will be bonded for just over a week until the porcelain veneer is prepared.

Cementation

Approximately 10 days after the second stage, the veneer will be ready to be fitted. After being approved by both the patient and the dentist, the veneer will be cemented and reviewed every 6 months.

Composite Veneers

The advantages of the bonded veneer are its lower cost and time efficiency. New research in composite resin also means that bond strength is not much of a concern anymore.

The disadvantages of the bonded veneer are its inability to mask heavily discoloured teeth and it is mechanically weaker than porcelain veneers.

Indications for composite veneers

  • Small or medium sized chip
  • Small gaps in between teeth
  • Mild or moderate staining

Bonding appointment

Depending on the complexity of the case, a 1.5 to 2 hours appointment will be booked to individually bond composite to your front teeth. Much of the time is spent on polishing, adjusting and customising.
